Manyoni and the team from EKZN Wildlife recently captured two Black Rhino for relocation to another reserve. These two animals will form part of the new founder population of Black Rhino! An incredible success highlighting Manyoni’s conservation efforts in protecting and promoting the growth of our population to the point that our animals can supplement new populations. 🦏💚
Manyoni is part of the Black Rhino Range Expansion Project (BRREP), a partnership between Ezemvelo KwaZulu-Natal Wildlife (EKZNW) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The aim of the project is to translocate founder populations of Black Rhino from the saturated provincial and national parks to private and community-owned reserves with adequate security for the protection of rhino, therefore expanding their range and kick-starting population growth. Manyoni was chosen as the second release site and in 2005 a founder population of black rhino were released into their new home.
