Every year, Manyoni conducts an aerial count to determine the size of large herbivore populations such as buffalo, zebra and kudu. These counts are an incredibly valuable tool needed for the management of the game populations in the park and allow for effective decision-making and management. A predetermined grid is flown by two helicopters in a single day to minimise the risk of double counting and ensure a reliable minimum count estimate for each species. The counts are performed at the height of winter to ensure maximum visibility in the dry conditions. The count went extremely well this year and we are pleased with the results.
