Brad Smith from Mavela Game Lodge spotted a Golden Pipit in Manyoni Private Game Reserve on the last day of 2018. Since then word has spread and a number of keen birders have flocked to the reserve to catch a glimpse of this special bird. The Golden Pipit is a rare vagrant to southern Africa and this is the 9th record for KwaZulu-Natal. Previous sightings were in 2016 at Ithala Game Reserve and before then Pongola Game Reserve. Manyoni Game Reserve is a birding diversity hotspot and boasts over 400 bird species. The Golden Pipit is not the only special sighting, we have also recently seen Lesser Moorhen, Black Coucal and Great Spotted Cuckoo. With a bird list that includes Bushveld Pipit, Rudd\u2019s Apalis, Gorgeous Bushshrike, Neergaard’s Sunbird, Green and Pink-throated Twinspots, Manyoni ticks all the boxes for the weekend birder and twitchers alike.<\/p>\n
